I develop software as a profession, but not games. Currently in my spare time I am building a game, but I can't talk a lot about it until I have more to show which would probably be next year. Work on this particular project began in January 2017. I've worked with a couple of engines before but usually found that they were overkill for the application I was building and they are all bloated with features I have no intention of using so currently I am using a custom engine.
I was pretty disappointed when I found out Unity has a built-in feature that can't be disabled (I think perhaps the premium edition allows disabling) that tracks data from the users playing games built in it, which means your game has to come with a privacy policy even if it's meant to be an offline single-player game.
With my budget it is hard to find talented, dedicated people to share the workload, so I work alone for now.
Seeing as you created this thread, I'd be interested in hearing your experiences.
